Anier Alonso

Anier Alonso is the heart and soul of Cuba Heat’s Afro-Cuban Rumba and Salsa presentations, bringing a profound connection to Afro-Cuban culture that shines through in every performance. Born in Cuba, Anier began his musical journey with the sacred batá drums at the age of 10, and his deep-rooted knowledge spans genres such as Yoruba, Abakuá, and Tajona. His extensive experience includes performing with the national folkloric ensemble of Cuba and various international acts, showcasing his versatility as a percussionist, vocalist, dancer, and teacher. Anier’s global tours with renowned artists like Decemer Bueno and Los Hombres Calientes reflect his dedication to preserving and sharing the vibrant traditions of Afro-Cuban music.

The idea for Cuba Heat began when Anier Alonso joined Africa Brass, an African jazz ensemble that brought together artists from around the world. Although his move to Miami interrupted this musical journey, his return to New Orleans has allowed Cuba Heat to continue and flourish. With Anier’s unique perspective and genuine passion, every Cuba Heat performance is a dynamic and immersive experience, blending traditional rhythms with contemporary flair. His ability to engage audiences and his commitment to authentic Afro-Cuban music make him an invaluable member of the band, ensuring that each show is both exhilarating and deeply rooted in cultural heritage.
